Day 4: Review Your Redirects | 30-Days SEO Course

Server relocation may require temporary redirection of certain URLs. These redirects (status code 302) ensure that Google retains the old URL in the index, even after the server is relocated, users can still access the old URL. You can only use 302 redirects for a limited period of time. To permanently redirect the URL, use status code 301, which permanently redirects the old URL to the new URL. Part of the link juice will also be passed in this process.
302 redirects

Hands-on tips:
  • Check all redirects used on the website.
  • Check if an existing 302 redirect is really needed, or if it should be replaced with a 301 redirect.
